Breathe in the air (34x40 cm)
Original in silver-plated frame.
Pink Floyd was playing constantly when I did the painting here.
Why a rabbit, you might be thinking?
The rabbit is mentioned in Roger Waters' delicious number: 'Run rabbit, run - or you'll never see the Sun.' But the rabbit has also become a symbol of freedom. The Berlin Wall consisted in some places of two parallel walls with no man's land in between. There lived 1000s of wild rabbits safe and sound, while the East Berliners' attempts to escape were punished with death. When the wall fell, the rabbits spread east and west in the streets of Berlin.
In my work, the rabbit has been fitted with a gas mask. Despite freedom, it can be difficult to breathe sometimes. Just imagine if you had an on/off button...
The original is framed in a solid, beautiful frame coated with real silver leaf.
"Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave but don't leave me
Look around, choose your own ground
For long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be
Run, rabbit, run
Dig that hole, forget the sun
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one
For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave"
