Soap (Original), 80x100 cm
There are 3 works in this series under the theme: 'Paid-Owned-Earned'. Here we work with relationships between people. Children, adults, lovers, workers, etc. and the dependencies, strengths and vulnerabilities inherent in the attachments.
Here is the painting that was created under the theme 'Earned'. - Herein lies the relationship and bond that you deserve. It is not a bond that is strong in advance. In 'earned', the bond is built up, like stone upon stone laid as a foundation for an unshakable bulwark.
In the work, the girl is the definition of innocence and trust. In its purest and finest form. So clean that her dress is built from the word 'soap', which is written almost as meditative grounding. - Here trust is given in blind faith that it will not be abused.
She plays 'love, love not' with a poppy whose red color is found elsewhere in the painting. Bewildering and enchanting. In the corner, a detailed line drawing found at a merchant's shop. It brings decades of history into the painting on its yellowed paper and shows home.
Home; the place that exists and you can always return to. It doesn't have to be a physical home, but can also be a mental place or just a relationship where you are safe and it's ok to feel small.
Acrylic, charcoal, marker and mixed media on canvas.
